Diving fascinates many people all over the world. But not everyone considers that diving (like any other sport) also comes with risks when diving. If an accident occurs, the resulting costs are often very high and usually have to be borne out of pocket. Only a few insurance companies cover the treatment of diving accidents (decompression sickness) in a hyperbaric chamber. The treatment can be very expensive, and many dive centers require proof of insurance in the event of a claim with a corresponding declaration of reimbursement. In some countries, such as Spain, divers are not allowed into the water without appropriate proof of insurance. If hyperbaric chamber treatment is necessary, the costs can quickly reach four-figure and, in extreme cases, five-figure sums in euros; possibly plus any hospital, overnight, and transport costs.
